I am Yoko Lie, father, husband and follower of Jesus – oh, and I also trade stocks.

That statement are truly all that I am, and I don’t have anything to brag about myself. I am blessed with wonderful wife and kids and happen to be taken to financial market and investment industries by pure and honest curiosity. I am currently work as full-time stock trader who make a living from trading my own and my affluent client funds. Living arrangement as a trader enable me to be present for my wife as we welcome our second son, and also a good time to earn my graduate degree in near future.

My first job as a banker give me wide perspective of general financial market, and mutual funds particularly grab my interest in no time. The idea of experts manage money for you seems too good to be true at that time, and God is taking me deeper to the investment realms with job offers in asset management companies in sudden manners.

My first role in asset management company are not really that interesting though. As branch manager I worked more on sales and team building side of the business, don’t have particular hands on experience on managing funds and, well, basically just trying so hard to convince the clients that my funds are *cough* the best in the market.
This role is rewarding for some sales minded people and will give them right amount of challenge and authority to proceed with their actions, but for me, I still have lingering desire to dip my hands further to the core of investment business.

Another role presented on my path as institutional and distribution business development manager, this role allow me to explore my interest in a very unique ways. This role demand my experience to deal with people as much as my knowledge of investments for proposing tailor-made mandates and funds.

I always wanted to be a bridge between the end clients and the sophisticated investment team, i want to translate the rigorous investment process in a simple manners to enable them understand what they bought. The company, Aberdeen Standard Investment, and it’s CIO kind enough to share the inside out of the investment team to me and facilitate my attempt to take CFA exams to upgrade my knowledge. I believe the one who can explain something highly intricate in a simple manner is the one who understand it the best. Hence, the pursuit of deeper investment wisdom keep on going, even until last year when I decided to resign from my job for more important task, becoming a full-time husband and father for our newborn and toddler.

I booked my first stock trade on 2011 become an avid stock trader since then. Other instruments such as Indices and Forex ever to take my interest, but I soon realize that the behavior of each asset class is visibly different. I admit my limitation and accept the fact that, for now, I am most comfortable with stocks behavior more than others.
